"I am a professional counselor who has had over 20 years of experience in the field. I must take 40 CEU's each year to maintain my license. Generally I just go through the paces to get my CEUs but Jocelyn's training has been the best, most useful and superb use of my time. In the last 20 years, I have never walked away feeling that every minute and every dollar was well spent and enriched me and my capacity to deliver a helpful service to my community. I have nothing but good things to say about my experience. If all your trainers are as proficient as Jocelyn, I can most assuredly recommend your organization and your training to my personal and professional community. I am so grateful. Thank you all and special thanks to Jocelyn."

"As a practicing counselor who has attended countless trainings in over twenty years, this training, without question, is the VERY best I have ever attended. Ed Owens was outstanding, in every sense of the word. He walked our group of 12 participants (grievers) through 4 days in a manner that was remarkable to be a part of. He was not our teacher, he was our guide and mentor. He built immediate rapport, created an environment of support, answered ALL questions, and modeled the method every step of the way. He held "safe space", was a heart with ears, and brought the method to life using his own experience, while tying in the critical concepts from text. Please let me know how I can help in any way; as this training changed my life and work. Moreover, it will change the lives of the beautiful veterans I am so honored to serve. Thank you Ed, and thank you GRI. I am forever grateful. Johnny Martin National Director of Aftercare FitOps Foundation"

"The Grief Recovery Method is the most comprehensive and effective process I have seen in my 20 years as a therapist for dealing with grief and unresolved issues from the past..."

"The Grief Recovery Method has given me tools in enhancing my clinical knowledge and understanding to help others. My experience in this area shows how unresolved issues are a factor in mental illness and emotional stability. In moving forward, I believe grief recovery is the first step in confronting our fears in dealing with PTSD and losses. i.e. (death, divorce, careers, illness & health and aging)."

"This has hands down been the best training I have ever attended. I work in mental health/social services so I attend trainings pretty frequently. The training was a lot more intense than I anticipated but that is completely okay. I was also surprised at how quickly our group formed a bond. Having participated in grief support groups myself this past year, this training was so helpful and eye opening! I have a completely new perspective on grief and loss."

"The Grief Recovery Specialist Training is the best experience I have had in the last 20 + years! I was pleased and enriched by each moment of the learning as well as the money spent to join the training. The method itself is extraordinarily well developed, evidence based and easy to understand. The information is broad and deep and will enrich you personally and professionally. I highly recommend joining such a training."

"This has given me significant understanding, tools, and confidence to engage people in their grief journey. I have learned about and processed more of my own grief and losses. Overall, this has been one of the best professional training experiences I have attended. It was a masterful blend of information and instruction with interaction and application. Well done! Gives me great confidence in the professionalism and expertise of the people who lead the organization."

"This was a very informative training. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor I learned valuable tools that will benefit patients individually. I am looking forward to developing opportunities to integrate this into my community."

"After 14 years as a Professional Counselor, the Grief Recovery Method is the best program I have discovered to help others connect with their hearts again and heal from losses. I would not hesitate to recommend this training!"

"This workshop needs to be offered on a broader scale for therapists and pastors. It should be mandated."

"The Grief Recovery Method Specialist Training was phenomenal and I would recommend this training to all social workers and therapists that are interested in grief recovery. My instructor was great and I look forward to engaging in my new endeavors."

"This training is a must-do! Grief is all around us, and we (therapists) are so often on the front lines. This method armed me for my work and I can't wait to begin using it with the people I try to help!"

"I attended the Grief Recovery Training as both a widow and a therapist. My "tools" only helped me to a point, but this method has taken me to a different place, a place of peace. Really looking forward to working with clients and helping them find their peace."

"I am a Marriage and Family Therapist who has searched for a program that not only meets the griever with compassion but has a format that contains a series of steps and actions to help the griever get into their emotional self to move into a place of recovery. The Grief Recovery Method Training has exceeded my expectations."

How does the Grief Recovery Method differ from traditional
grief support?

There is a beginning and an end to the process. It’s not ongoing talk therapy.

When done in a group setting, GRM sessions are closed groups.

The GRM process allows the individual to shift their lens with respect to "processing" (or not processing) their grief from their "story" to their "emotions".

It reflects characteristics of Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Emotionally Focused approaches to supporting clients.

The structure of the GRM formats keeps the process intact, with little or no allowance for deflection on the part of the therapist or the griever, thus creating a sense of containment and safety for the client.

The Grief Recovery Method is an important tool for any mental health professional because it depathologizes the construct of "grief" and normalizes the client's emotional, psychological and somatic responses to loss.

The Grief Recovery Method has been proven to be “Evidence Based” and effective by research done at Kent State University. It is the only Grief Support Program to have received this distinction of being evidence based!

How does The Grief Recovery Method differ from EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) helps with the neuro networks while the Grief Recovery Method deals with what is incomplete on an emotional level. A number of mental health professionals who have taken the Grief Recovery Method Certification Training also use EMDR.

The techniques focus upon different areas.
